My Home Care Package ended. What happens to my services now?

The short answer

Your services didn’t stop. On 1 November 2025 everyone on a Home Care Package moved automatically onto Support at Home at an equivalent funding level, with no new assessment and no gap in care. What changed is the shape of the money: a quarterly budget instead of an annual package, held by Services Australia instead of your provider, and a co-contribution that now depends on which of three service groups you’re using.

What transitioned automatically

If you held a Home Care Package on 31 October 2025, you were moved across without doing anything. Your level was mapped to one of the eight new classifications, your provider stayed your provider, and your existing schedule of visits continued. The same applied to Short-Term Restorative Care, which became the Restorative Care Pathway.

Unspent package funds weren’t taken away. They were preserved and can still be drawn on alongside your new quarterly budget — worth knowing if you’d been saving for equipment or a home modification.

What actually feels different

1

Budgets are quarterly. You get a fresh allocation every three months rather than a yearly pot. Up to a cap, unspent money rolls into the next quarter — but you can no longer bank a whole year of underspend.

2

Your provider no longer holds the funds. Services Australia does. Providers claim against your budget after delivering the service, which is why your statement now looks different.

3

Co-contributions vary by service group. Clinical care attracts none. Independence and everyday living do, on a sliding scale set by your means assessment — and from 1 October 2026, personal care moves to fully funded.

4

Prices are public. Every provider must publish a full price schedule. If yours won’t show you one, that tells you something. Ours is here.

Can I change providers now?

Yes, and it’s easier than it was — your funding follows you rather than sitting with a provider. There are no exit fees under Support at Home. In practice a switch takes a fortnight: you tell your current provider, we set up your plan and workers, and we agree a date where their last visit and our first visit meet.
